Co-ordinator Update 31 August 2021

NQ Approval 2021-22

Qualification approval is an important process for both centres and SQA. It ensures that a centre has the staff, reference materials, learning materials, assessment materials, equipment and accommodation needed to deliver, assess and internally verify a qualification. We also need to ensure that conditions of assessment for external assessments are understood and will be met.

It is in the interest of centres, candidates and SQA that the approval process is complete before delivery has started. We appreciate the pressures that schools are under at this time but want to confirm that we can accept approval applications for 2022 certification by email at any point up to the deadline of 24 September 2021

Certification in 2022 cannot be guaranteed if applications are received after 24 September 2021. If you do not seek approval, or are unsuccessful in your approval application, you will not be able to enter and result candidates for the qualification, even if delivery is underway.

Units that were formerly part of the National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher Courses have been re-coded and remain as free-standing units. If the course is not auto-approved, the same approval requirements apply to the units. If you are approved to deliver the National Course with which the units were formerly associated, you can email to request approval to be applied to the units. If you have not been approved previously for the National Course, you will need to apply for approval for the units using the approval application form if you wish to deliver them.

If you have any questions or need advice on completing your approval application, please contact your SQA Business Development Account Manager.
