Recruitment - Curriculum for Excellence

Make a difference - get involved in developing the next generation of National Qualifications for Scotland

The Curriculum for Excellence programme will provide a seamless curriculum for young people from 3 to 18 in Scotland. Together with our partners, the Scottish Government, Learning and Teaching Scotland and HM Inspectorate of Education, we are a key player in this programme with our principal role being to develop the next generation of National Qualifications.


Catalogue of National Qualifications

The new style Catalogue is now available and can be accessed using the following link - Catalogue of National Qualifications (4 MB). You can search for and find information more easily and we will be updating this information regularly, so that you will be able to access the most up-to-date information on National Qualifications in a single location, at any time.  The Catalogue includes listings of:

  • National Units, their Superclass and Verification Groups
  • National Courses
  • Standard Grade Courses
  • National Qualification Group Awards – National Certificates and National Progression Awards

Estimates, Absentees and Assessment Appeals 2009

Estimates, Absentees and Assessment Appeals (EAAs) for the 2009 diet has been updated to remove those Courses no longer available, to add Courses in Cantonese, Mandarin (Simplified) and Mandarin (Traditional) at Intermediate 1 and 2, and to update contact details. This document will support our work with teachers, lecturers and partners to enhance understanding of standards.


National Qualifications: How awards are made

National Qualifications: How awards are made describes the quality assurance procedures SQA carries out every year to make sure that the awards made to candidates for National Qualifications are fair and that standards are rigorously maintained from year to year. 

The National Qualifications covered are at: Standard Grade, Intermediate 1, Intermediate 2, Higher and Advanced Higher. This also includes Project-based National Courses (PBNCs).
