SQA Star Awards 2008

Thirty-eight awards in fourteen different categories were presented to a variety of education and training success stories from across Scotland recently at the annual Star Awards.


Guide to Assessment

Research and Information Services have produced a new SQA Guide to Assessment. The Guide gives an overview of the different purposes and principles of assessment. It contains information sheets on each of the most common assessment instruments and outlines the processes for assessing SQA Units and Courses. A glossary of assessment terminology is provided, as well as a reference section of publications and websites.


Replacement Certificate Service

SQA operates a service for the issue of replacement certificates. An online service is available for obtaining replacement certificates as well as a downloadable application form.


Website improvements

We have been working on a number of initiatives to improve our website and have some exciting new developments that will be available over the coming months.


Changes to Core Skills Profiles from October 2008

The Core Skills Framework has undergone a refresh, which means that some of the components within it have changed. These component changes were necessary to ensure that the Framework remained current.

Scottish Qualifications Authority issues results for National Courses 2008

The Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) has announced the 2008 National Course results, which include Standard Grade and Access Courses.


PDA: Introduction to Tutoring ESOL (SCQF level 6)

This new SQA tutoring award is aimed at those new to the field of ESOL, or experienced tutors who have no recognised ESOL tutoring/teaching qualifications. It might also be appropriate for teachers of other subjects who have ESOL learners in their classes and wish to develop a broad understanding of issues related to English language development.

SQA Licensing Qualifications Accredited

We have developed four new qualifications to support the Licensed Trade sector in implementing the mandatory PLH qualification and staff training requirements arising from the Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005.


The Scottish Learning Festival

The Scottish Learning Festival - the annual national education conference and exhibition for education - takes place on 24 and 25 September 2008 at the SECC and Clyde Auditorium in Glasgow.


Entry Charges 2008-09

SQA has announced that from session 2008/09, entry charges for National Qualifications, Higher National Qualifications and Scottish Vocational Qualifications will rise by 3%. A letter has been despatched to all centres with further details.


Traffic delays expected at SQA's Dalkeith offices

Visitors to our Dalkeith offices between 23 June and 26 September 2008 are advised that road works at the Sheriffhall Roundabout may cause delays.


Curriculum for Excellence and the review of National Qualifications: Update

Fiona Hyslop MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning, has announced that the next generation of National Qualifications will be introduced for pupils in the 2013/14 session.


Art Exhibition 2007
In partnership with the National Galleries of Scotland, we held a hugely successful Art Exhibition at the IT Gallery in the National Gallery of Scotland, The Mound, Edinburgh, from 24 October 2007 to 4 January 2008.
Equalities Review
It’s been one year since we published our Disability Equality Scheme. We are taking this opportunity to review the progress we have made so far in the area of Disability Equality and to amalgamate our reporting into a single equalities review rather than having a review for each equality strand.
Operational Help Centre
The Operational Help Centre provides information for staff in centres about interacting with the Scottish Qualifications Authority, and is now where the Calendar of Key Dates can be found. The Calendar of Key Dates lists important events and deadlines in the year, including Coursework submission dates.

The Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) today (Tuesday 7 August 2007) announces the 2007 National Course results, which include Standard Grade and Access Courses. 
10 Years of Marked Achievement
SQA was established in April 1997 to combine the roles of the Scottish Vocational Education Council (SCOTVEC) and the Scottish Examination Board (SEB). We are now responsible for the development, assessment and certification of most qualifications in Scotland (except university degrees). 1.25 million Scots hold an SQA qualification!
