Approval and verification changes - Street Works, Taxi, First Aid and Health and Safety in a Construction Environment

We’re changing our approval and verification processes for the qualifications listed below.

The additional steps we are introducing will provide SQA, centres and learners with further reassurance that these qualifications are being delivered in line with qualification and regulatory requirements.

Changes to approval

From 1 March 2024, centres who apply for approval to deliver these qualifications will be automatically placed on ‘Indirect Claim Status’.

This means that centres will be unable to certificate candidates for these qualifications until successful verification has taken place.

This change does not affect centres who already have approval to deliver these qualifications.

Introduction of unannounced verification activity

From 1 April 2024, all the qualifications detailed above will also be subject to unannounced verification activity. Centres will be required to give us five days’ notice in advance of assessments taking place.

This will apply to all centres already approved to deliver these qualifications, or those who apply for approval to deliver these qualifications.

The exceptions to this are centres delivering the Taxi and Street Works qualifications above, as they are already subject to unannounced verification activity.

Over the next few weeks, we will contact centres that are already approved for these qualifications to explain more about the process and provide guidance on what happens next.

If you have any questions in the meantime, please contact the Qualification Verification team at qav@sqa.org.uk.
