NPA Dance - changes to approval for new centres
From August 2024, any new centres planning to deliver NPA Dance courses (NPA 4 or 5) at SCQF levels 4 and 5 will need to apply for approval from SQA. We’ll work with each centre to identify what support they need to deliver the qualifications.
If your centre is already delivering these qualifications, you won’t be affected by this change and you don’t need to come forward for approval. This includes centres that started delivering these qualifications in session 2023–24. However, if your centre has had a break in delivering these qualifications, you will need to apply for approval to start delivering them again.
When do centres need to apply for approval?
Centres need to apply for approval before delivering the qualification for the first time or before resuming delivery of the qualification after a break, and must consider the resources available to do this.
Centres must apply for approval by the end of September of the year before certification. For example, if your centre is planning to deliver the qualification in session 2024–25 and certificate the qualification by August 2025, you must submit your approval application by the end of September 2024.
Why are you making this change?
We’re making this change due to a significant increase in centres delivering these qualifications, and an increased demand for additional support from SQA to help teachers and lecturers develop their knowledge of the subject.
