NextGen: HN news

University of Strathclyde engagement

We held an engagement session with the University of Strathclyde's Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in June, focussing on our NextGen: HN Social Sciences qualification.

Our aim was to deepen understanding of NextGen: HN generally and Social Sciences specifically, reaching faculty academics, faculty admissions and central admissions.

Social Science was chosen because Strathclyde receive a high volume of applications in this subject area. The presentation was very well received, sparking several questions and discussion points.

Interestingly, only one of these was about Social Sciences with all others centring on their access to subject documentation and other admissions issues.

We have agreed with Strathclyde that the approach worked well and that we will map our NextGen; HN qualifications to Strathclyde’s faculties and extend to other agreed subject areas over session 2024-2025.

Al Blackshaw, Widening Access Manager, said: “We value the opportunity for our Admissions Selection staff to converse directly with the SQA on new qualifications, and look forward to arranging more conversations at key points over the coming admissions cycle to work towards maximising the benefits for Scotland’s college learners.”
