Scotland's National Chef Gary Maclean presents Health and Food Technology awards

The British Nutrition Foundation (BNF) recently presented their annual Drummond Education awards to the two pupils who attained top marks in our Health and Food Technology courses last session.

The winner of the National 5 level award was Abby Slack from Mearns Castle High School, and the Advanced Higher award went to Esme Lee from Balwearie High School.

They were presented with their awards by Scotland’s National Chef, Gary Maclean, and SQA Qualifications Manager, Graeme Findlay, at the BNF’s national Scottish conference for Home Economics teachers, held recently at Abertay University in Dundee.

The event included an SQA update, practical demonstrations from Gary, and workshops delivered by lecturers from the University on food product development, chocolate work and sensory food tastings.

Also at the event, the Food and Drink Federation Scotland discussed job opportunities in the food and drink manufacturing sector - Scotland’s largest sector with an annual turnover of £11 billion.
