English - Scottish set texts list updated to include more modern and diverse works

We’ve updated our Scottish set texts list for National 5 and Higher English courses. This follows an extensive consultation on the current list, where we listened to the views of teachers and lecturers, learners, and literary experts from across the country.

The updated list will be used in National 5 and Higher English courses from next session. It includes new titles such as Duck Feet by Ely Percy, the Gaelic language play Sequamur by Donald S. Murray, and works by Jenni Fagan, poets Imtiaz Dharker and Kathleen Jamie, and playwright David Greig.

Learners and educators asked us to feature modern, diverse writers. The updated list includes more writers of colour, female writers, LBTQ+ writers, and authors from a wide range of backgrounds.
