Higher and Advanced Higher History - Updated specimen question paper marking instructions
We’ve made some corrections to the marking instructions for the Higher Scottish History specimen question paper and Advanced Higher History specimen question paper, following feedback from teachers and lecturers.
Changes to the Higher Scottish History marking instructions
In response to feedback from teachers and lecturers, we’ve updated the following knowledge points:
•
Page 5 – We’ve added a key point on the Stone of Destiny: ‘The Stone of Destiny on which Scottish kings were inaugurated was taken to Westminster along with the key records of Scotland and Margaret’s Black Rood.’ The explanation is, ‘By removing all symbols of Scottish independent identity, Edward sent out a clear message that Scotland was no longer an independent country’.
This replaces the key point, ‘Edward’s influence was shown when John had to agree to some English members of his government. The new chancellor, Master Thomas of Hunsingore, came from Yorkshire’ and the explanation, ‘King Edward’s determination to exercise his authority as overlord undermined and weakened Balliol’s position in Scotland’.
•
Page 7 – We’ve amended the knowledge point ‘Wallace and Murray were appointed as guardians 1297’ to ‘Wallace was appointed guardian, 1297.’
Changes to the Advanced Higher History marking instructions
We’ve made the following corrections to the marking instructions in response to feedback from teachers and lecturers.
•
Page 64 – We’ve replaced John Eaton with Clement Eaton in the ‘Historians’ section.
•
Pages 65 and 67 – We’ve replaced Hugh McPherson with James McPherson in the ‘Historians’ section.
•
Page 67 – We’ve amended the perspective, ‘States that domestic gloom in May was changing to optimism and further suggests a greater chance of elections in November rather than August’.
This is now worded, ‘States that domestic gloom in May was changing to optimism and further suggests a greater chance of
victory in the elections in November rather than August’.
•
Page 69 – We’ve replaced Christopher Phillips with UIrich Phillips in the ‘Historians’ section. The perspective ‘takes the view that the relationship between enslaved people and their owners was marked by ‘gentleness, kind-hearted friendship and mutual loyalty’’ is now correctly attributed to Ulrich Phillips.
•
Page 142 – We’ve corrected a spelling error, changing ‘Edward Malfekis’ to ‘Edward Malefakis’.
