Removal of generic barcode cover sheets
We’re no longer using generic barcode cover sheets for the National Qualifications exams. When packaging material, you must include either the physical question paper, or both the standard question paper and answer booklet, in front of all responses. This applies where the candidate has used either:
- ICT (word-processed material), or
- a digital question paper (where there is no barcode on each page), or
- a digital answer booklet.
This change will provide the following benefits:
- An easier and more robust packaging process – Removing the need for a barcode cover sheet reduces the number of steps involved in the packaging process, making it quicker and reducing the risk of error. With fewer stationery items to manage, invigilators and centre staff can focus on packaging scripts and essential documents correctly, without handling a barcode cover sheet. Correct packaging reduces the risk of missing materials, particularly for ICT submissions.
- Time saving – This change will save time for invigilators, as candidates will now complete their details on the front of the question paper, instead of invigilators filling out a barcode cover sheet for them.
- An improved centre experience – The streamlined process will reduce queries and follow-up requests, reducing administrative workload.
You can find full details of the changes to the packaging process in the 2025 Invigilator Handbook.
