NextGen: HN update
We’re now transitioning to a new approach to delivering the NextGen: HN project.
The next phase involves us moving away from piloting individual prototype qualifications. Instead, we’ll determine a best practice model that can be used in future, informed by what we have learned from the NextGen: HN project evaluation activity.
NextGen: HN delivery in 2025-26
Existing NextGen: HN pilot centres who have delivered any pilot NextGen: HN qualifications for a minimum of one academic session will be able to deliver these same qualifications in session 2025-26.
We’ll support this by introducing new digital platforms to support the delivery of NextGen: HN qualifications, and wider SQA services, through our Digital Awarding project.
This is based on the expectation of similar entry numbers for these qualifications as in 2024-25, however we’ll consider requests for increased entry numbers on a case-by-case basis.
Ongoing qualification development and delivery
We’ll continue to work with colleagues to progress seven NextGen: HN qualifications currently in development. We intend to make these available for business-as-usual delivery (rather than piloting) from session 2026-27.
We’ll also pause seven planned NextGen: HN developments due to staff capacity and budget constraints.
We’ll confirm plans for the further rollout of NextGen: HN qualifications for delivery in 2026-27 after we review the initial use of our new digital platforms in 2025-26.
