SQA supports the 2025 Scottish Apprenticeship Awards

The Scottish Apprenticeship Awards took place last week, and showcased apprentices, employers, and learning providers from across Scotland in a range of sectors. The awards highlight the benefits apprenticeships bring to apprentices, employers, and learning providers.

We sponsored the Large Employer of the Year category, an award which celebrates the commitment to apprenticeships by employers with 250 or more employees. This year’s winner was Glasgow-based shipbuilder, BAE Systems, for its dedication to developing skilled apprentices.

BAE Systems currently support over 600 Foundation, Modern and Graduate Apprentices, and plan to recruit an additional 850 apprentices, who will be guaranteed a permanent role when they qualify.

Sarah-Anne Rooney, Employee Development Programme Manager at SQA, presented the award for Large Employer of the Year. She said, “A huge congratulations to BAE Systems. The effort they have put into training hundreds of apprentices already deserves to be recognised, let alone their impressive plans for the future! I’d also like to express my support and gratitude for all the nominees and winners. I am always impressed by the incredible achievements of apprentices, and the employers and training providers who champion them.”
