Draft Documents

As part of the development process, each qualification goes through a number of different stages.

At each stage, we are publishing draft documents on our website which outline our proposals and plans.

This keeps stakeholders informed about what we are doing and offers the opportunity to review and comment on all of the draft documents.

To date, we have published:

Course and Unit Support Notes for National 4 and National 5 which provide advice and guidance on delivering the Course and Units
Course Assessment Specifications for National 5 and Higher which define the mandatory assessment requirements for National Courses and Units
Unit Specifications for Access 2, Access 3, National 4, National 5 and Higher which define the mandatory requirements for a Unit.
Course Specifications for Access 2, Access 3, National 4, National 5 and Higher which define the mandatory requirements for a Course.
Course Rationales and Summaries for Access 2, Access 3, National 4, National 5 and Higher which outline the proposed content for the new qualifications and their aims and purposes.
Overview of Qualifications Reports which outline the subjects that fall within each curriculum area and the subjects, levels and types of qualifications which will be developed.
Progress Reports which give recommendations on the scope, skills and issues within each curriculum area.
Design Principles which are the blueprint for developing the new qualifications. These outline what the new qualifications will look like, what they will achieve and the specifications they will adhere to.

We have also published draft documents for new Awards which we are also developing in addition to the new National Qualifications.

The final documents for Access - Higher will be published in April 2012.

Assessment Support Materials, which provide examples of approaches to Course and Unit assessment, will be published for Access - National 5 in April 2013, for Higher in April 2014 and for Advanced Higher in April 2015.
