Changes to Qualifications in England, Wales and Northern Ireland

The way qualifications are regulated in England, Wales and Northern Ireland is changing. Changes include the removal of the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF), which specified the design of QCF qualifications. This has been replaced with a descriptive framework. Frameworks contain levels that indicate the difficulty and complexity of the content of qualifications. Frameworks also provide a mechanism to compare qualifications from different countries.

While these changes mostly directly affect Awarding Bodies like SQA, you may notice that there are some changes to terminology and information surrounding qualifications delivered in these countries. More detail on this is contained in our FAQ document:
