Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Court Tribunal Operations

The NVQ Diploma in Court Tribunal Operations at QCF level 3 is aimed at Team Leaders, Clerks of Court and Executive Officers, working within, or aiming to work within courts and tribunals.  Learners undertaking this qualification will develop the skills needed to perform competently in these roles and the knowledge and understanding of the procedures of the Civil/Criminal Justice System.

Why deliver this qualification

This qualification offers centres flexibility and choice because of the comprehensive range of optional Units.

This qualification can be offered in any of the following modes:

  • full-time
  • part-time (eg day-release)
  • open and distance learning
  • infill into existing classes
  • evening provision

Who does this qualification suit

This qualification is suitable for a wide range of learners, aged over 16 and with an interest in working in a legal/justice setting including:

  • school leavers
  • adult returners to education
  • people in employment who wish to enhance their career prospects

Apprenticeships

This qualification is included as a component in the Advanced Apprenticeship for Court, Tribunal and Prosecution Operations.

Learners may wish to do these qualifications as part of the Apprenticeship, or on their own.   If learners complete the qualifications as part of the Apprenticeship they will be required to undergo additional training, over and above the core qualification, in areas including employment rights and responsibility and/or English and maths.

They may wish to consider taking qualifications outside of the Apprenticeship framework:

  • to maximise their employment opportunities within this sector, as not all employers offer Apprenticeship places for this particular job role
  • the full Apprenticeship may not be relevant to those who are already in employment but wish to gain recognition and/or certification of their skills
  • if they meet the entry requirements to take the qualification but not those required for the apprenticeship route

Access

As with all SQA qualifications, entry is at the discretion of the centre.

Progression

Learners who achieve this qualification can progress to more senior roles within Courts/Tribunals and with significant further experience may be able to progress to management level roles such as Court Manager within Courts/Tribunals and Project Management roles within Justice and wider sectors. Job roles this qualification enables to progression to include:

  • Clerk of Court with responsibilities for maintaining records within a court and administering oaths to witnesses and jurors.
  • Team Leader with responsibilities for managing and leading a team of administrative staff including performance improvement and people development.
  • Executive Officer with responsibilities for providing junior management support and carrying out fairly complex administrative duties and drafting and checking correspondence and data.

Learners who complete this qualification may be able to progress to further learning, including:

  • Management development training
  • Higher Level Apprenticeships such as Management
  • Project management training and qualifications
