SVQ 3 Poultry Production at SCQF level 6
This SVQ in develops the skills required for commercial poultry production.
It covers areas such as promoting, monitoring and maintaining health, safety and security; communicating in a business environment; and maintaining records within the workplace.
The SVQ also includes optional Units that cover monitoring the overall process for egg production, brooding and growth of young birds; as well as planting, harvesting, preparing and monitoring crops; working with planting equipment; and livestock.
Learners will develop the intermediate-level skills they need for employment and/or further study, allowing them to more proficient in their role within the agricultural industries.
The Poultry Production SVQ 3 is based on the National Occupational Standards (NOS) set and published by the Sector Skills Council for the sector, Lantra.
This qualification is available through employers and training providers.
Why deliver this qualification
The SVQ can be offered in any of the following modes:
- part-time (eg day-release)
- open and distance learning
The achievement of other awards such as National Certificate in Agriculture or the SVQ 2 in Agriculture can contribute towards the successful completion of this award.
Who does this qualification suit
This SVQ is suitable for:
- individuals who are currently in employment and who wish to obtain a formal qualification
- individuals working on poultry farms
Entry is at the discretion of the centre.
No prior qualifications are required to undertake this qualification, although experience in/knowledge of subject would be an advantage.
The level 6 award could provide progression to:
- an HNC/HND in Agriculture or a related area
- degree level study at a higher education institution
Centres with devolved authority for approval should use their own internal approval process.
Centres without devolved authority will have to come forward for approval and should contact SQA’s Business Development Team for guidance.
Assessors and verifiers must be able to meet SQA’s general requirements for technical/occupational competence as outlined in the Guide to Approval.
