Your coursework

Your coursework, whether a project, portfolio or assignment, shows us how well you know the subject and gives you extra marks to add to your final grade.

Deadlines

Your teacher/lecturer will set deadlines that you need to meet. Don't wait until the deadline day to hand in your coursework. Remember if you're struggling, ask your teacher/lecturer for support.

You can use sources (such as books or the internet) to support your work but don't just copy from these sources.

How to reference sources

Remember to acknowledge your sources. Here are a few tips:

  • Use quotation marks around any text from another source and identify it.
  • Reference any diagrams and illustrations.
  • Create a bibliography (a list of references).

Submitting your coursework

Check your coursework thoroughly before you hand it in, making sure:

  • all work is your own and sources are referenced properly
  • there is no offensive language or imagery
  • you have completed your coursework as instructed by your teacher or lecturer

Plagiarism

We use software to identify plagiarism in coursework.

Plagiarism is if:

  • all or some of the work has been done by someone else
  • it's example work prepared by your teacher/lecturer
  • it's been copied from a book, internet site or essay bank

Don't work with others on your coursework unless it's allowed or you will be penalised.

Declaration

Your school or college will give you a declaration that you have to sign before they submit your coursework.
