Diploma in Digital Marketing at SCQF level 6 (GK4W 46)

The Diploma in Digital Marketing at SCQF level 6 provides learners with a qualification that demonstrates underpinning knowledge and evidence of competence in digital marketing.

The qualification includes: understanding the business environment; understanding legal, regulatory and ethical requirements in sales or marketing; using collaborative technologies; principles of marketing and evaluation; developing professionalism; and digital marketing metrics and analytics.

This Diploma is available through colleges, employers and training providers.

Why deliver this qualification

The Diploma in Digital Marketing at SCQF level 6 has been developed for the marketing sector.

Supported by the Scottish Government, this competence-based qualification is expected to be part of the Digital Marketing Modern Apprenticeships framework.

Learners can progress to a range of courses at a higher level including HNC/HND Marketing, HNC/HND Advertising and PR, or degree programmes in Marketing.

This qualification is competence based and should be offered within a workplace environment. It can be assessed within a workplace environment or, where simulation is used, within a realistic working environment.

Who does this qualification suit

The Diploma in Digital Marketing is suitable for:

  • individuals who are currently in employment and who wish to obtain a formal qualification
  • employers who wish their employees to obtain short, continuing professional development courses
  • mature candidates who may have been out of education for some time
  • school leavers who are undertaking an apprenticeship programme in Digital Marketing

Access

Entry is at the discretion of the centre.

No prior qualifications are required to undertake this qualification, although experience or knowledge of traditional marketing methods would be an advantage. Learners must also be in a suitable position to allow them to generate evidence from the workplace to successfully complete the Diploma.

Progression

The Diploma in Digital Marketing at SCQF level 6 could provide progression to:

  • the Diploma in Digital Marketing at SCQF level 8
  • an HNC/HND in Marketing or HNC/HND Advertising and PR
  • a range of PDAs in Management
  • degree level study at a higher education institution

Approval

Centres with devolved authority for approval should use their own internal approval process.

Centres without devolved authority will have to come forward for approval and should contact SQA's Business Development Team for guidance.

Assessors and verifiers must be able to meet SQA's general requirements for technical/occupational competence as outlined in the Guide to Approval and the specific requirements included in the Digital Marketing Assessment Principles document.

How to assess

Assessment of this award will be through a series of theoretical and practical assessments or tasks. Most of the assessment is likely to take place in the learner's place of work where the learner will build up a portfolio of evidence.

Qualification Structure

The Diploma in Digital Marketing at SCQF level 6 consists of a number of mandatory Units and a wide range of optional Units.

The Diploma in Digital Marketing at SCQF level 6 requires the learner to achieve a minimum of 65 credits: 27 credits from the six Mandatory Units plus a minimum of 38 credits from the optional Units. A minimum of 14 credits must come from Optional Group A.
