NPA in Leadership for the Racehorse Industry at SCQF level 6

This National Progression Award (NPA) introduces learners to techniques that are important in the racehorse sector.

It develops the practical, technical and transferable skills required for leadership roles within the racehorse industry and allows learners to gain experience of working within a racing yard.

This qualification is available through colleges and training providers.

NPAs can be taught as a full-time course over one year or as a part-time course over two years.

This National Progression Award consists of four mandatory units (24 SCQF credit points).

Mandatory units include:

  • Leadership in Practice  
  • Customer Service in the Horseracing Industry
  • Developing Sustainable Practice in the Horseracing Industry
  • Yard Management

The NPA in Leadership for the Racehorse Industry is designed for a wide range of learners, including:

You will develop an understanding of the skills and qualities required for a leadership role within horseracing.  Additionally, the qualification explores best business practice and discusses the challenges surrounding horse racing’s commitment to sustainable principles.

  • mature candidates who have been out of education for a long period of time
  • individuals who are currently in employment and wish to obtain a formal qualification
  • those who are looking to access HN programmes

Access
Entry is at the discretion of the school, college or training provider. However, if you are thinking of entering the level 6 award, it is recommended that you should first have experience of working in the equine sector.

 

Employment and progression

You could use this level 6 award to progress to:

  • study at SCQF level 7
  • an HNC/HND in Equine Studies or a related area
  • employment in the racehorse sector
