HNC Golf Course Management candidate information

The HNC Golf Course Management provides the many and varied competences required by the golf course manager. In this course, your sound technical knowledge of modern greenkeeping practice will be complemented by the knowledge, skill and understanding you will need for the effective administration of human, physical, biological and financial resources in the golf course environment.

The various elements that make up the course contribute to developing your oral, written and graphical skills, building up a sophisticated communications skills base. The course will enhance your self-confidence and professionalism. You will also develop your planning, research, analytical, evaluative and written skills.

Employment and progression opportunities

The HNC will provide you with a wide range of employment opportunities. With appropriate experience, the HNC could lead to First Assistant level employment.

The award should provide opportunities for articulation and progression to the HNDs Golf Course Management and Golf Management, as well as the PDAs in International Golf Course Management and Golf Management and other courses available within the UK and overseas. It would be recommended that you check with the relevant institutions and your centre for progression routes open to you.

Entry

As with all SQA qualifications, entry is at the discretion of the centre. Examples of formal entry qualifications include:

  • National Certificate Greenkeeping at SCQF level 6
  • SVQ level 2 Amenity Horticulture: Sportsturf
  • two Highers and three Standard Grades in relevant subjects
  • any comparable educational qualifications from other Awarding Bodies, eg NVQs

If you have suitable work experience (paid or voluntary), you may be accepted for entry on your merit. You may be interviewed to assess your ability to cope with the demands of the course. Evidence of appropriate experience could include: credit transfer, accreditation of prior learning or prior experience (APL, APE, APEL), work experience in Golf Course Management.
