Updated HN in Management and Leadership (Autumn 2012)

The updated HNC and Diploma in Management and Leadership are now available. These retain the existing proven content of previous awards and are presented in a practical way to enable candidates to apply it to their own situation.

The HNC covers management principles for those gaining their first experience of management or for those who aspire to become managers in the near future.

Key areas covered: self-development; management and leadership skills; managing and working with others; planning and implementing change; managing operational resources; and customer care. The Diploma builds on these principles and provides strategic competences for future career and personal development in managerial and leadership activities.

In addition to more traditional assessments, innovative arrangements now let candidates use ICT for providing their evidence (eg Web 2.0 techniques such as blogs, wikis, podcasts, social bookmarking sites and presentation software). As well as reducing the amount of assessment, this also increases flexibility with candidates choosing tools and techniques appropriate to their own situation.

HNC Management and Leadership/Diploma in Management and Leadership

PDAs in Management and Leadership

SQA has developed 2 suites of Professional Development Awards in Management and Leadership. These are short focused awards made up of two Units. The PDAs range from SCQF level 6 (Higher) to SCQF level 11 (Masters) and are jointly certificated with the Chartered Management Institute (CMI).

One suite is based on HN Units (Capability Suite). These are designed to develop knowledge, skills and understanding of the principles of management. They are not just relevant to employees already in management positions, but also those aspiring to a managerial role.

The other suite of PDAs is made up of SVQ Units (Competency Suite). These develop knowledge and understanding, but also allow candidates to demonstrate occupational competence in a range of management activities through proof of actual performance in the workplace.

Chartered Management Institute (CMI)

SQA and CMI have joined forces to help build careers in Management. CMI now offer one year free studying membership for SQA candidates undertaking an HNC, Diploma or the PDAs in Management and Leadership.
