Assessment conditions in the National 5 Accounting assignment
Following the publication of the 2014-15 National 5 Accounting Course Report (available from the Verification and Course Reports tab below), it shows that there continues to be a lack of correlation between candidate performance in the National 5 Accounting question paper and the National 5 Accounting assignment. Though it is noted that the national picture has improved compared to session 2013-14, some candidates are still gaining very high (or full) marks in the assignment but achieving comparatively low marks in the question paper.
The assignment offers candidates the opportunity to tackle topics and questions from the Course in a different way to the challenges offered by the question paper. Any task offered in the assignment could also appear in the question paper and vice versa. For this reason, we would expect to see comparative performance and a strong correlation across both Course components.
Centres are reminded that we have published guidance on the requirements for conducting and supervising the National 5 Accounting assignment and that these requirements must be followed. This includes important information on what level of assistance may be provided to candidates and the timing of the assignment; both of which are key to the fair completion of the assignment for all candidates. This guidance is included in the Course Assessment Specification and General assessment information documents.
The following is a link to the assessment conditions for the N5 Accounting assignment:
Teachers and lecturers are further reminded that the function of their role in dealing with the externally assessed assignment is purely one of administration and supervision. Centres are charged with administering the assignment and to that end, the role of the teacher or lecturer is effectively limited to that of an invigilator. Teachers and lecturers must not provide feedback or comment to candidates on any aspect of the assignment; nor should they mark any part of the assignment prior to its submission to us.
We will again be contacting and visiting some centres directly to discuss this further, however if you have any concerns which you wish to discuss please contact our Customer Support Team on 0303 333 0330 or email email@example.com
