The contract specification will describe the role and list the outline duties required of the role. From each contract specification you will also be able to see the relevant selection criteria for that role. The selection criteria will describe the characteristics required to undertake the role.

Education Consultant – Item Writing

An Education Consultant is responsible for ensuring all duties and tasks associated with Item Writing contracts are undertaken within the conditions, timeframes and arrangements set by SQA. 

Examiner - DGSA

An Examiner undertakes pre and post examination procedures under the guidance of the Principal Assessor and in accordance with SQA policy and instructions.

External Verifier (Petroleum Driver Passport Industry Training Scheme)

An External Verifier is responsible for external verification and qualification approval activities under the conditions, timescales and arrangements set by SQA.

External Verifier (Carriage of Dangerous Goods and Use of Transportable Pressure Equipment)

An External Verifier is responsible for external verification and qualification approval activities under the conditions, timescales and arrangements set by SQA.

External Verifier (UK and International)

An External Verifier is responsible for external verification and qualification approval activities under the conditions, timescales and arrangements set by SQA.

Item Writer/Expert Reviewer

An Item writer is responsible for creating questions, items or tasks and appropriate supporting marking instructions.

Marker – DGSA

A Marker marks candidates’ work in line with General Marking Instructions and in accordance with SQA policy and procedures.

Qualification Approver

A Qualification Approver assesses completed qualification approval applications submitted by centres and make recommendations on their readiness to offer the qualifications in accordance with SQA policy and procedures.

Qualification Verifier

A Qualification Verifier is responsible for qualification verification activities under the conditions, timescales and arrangements set by SQA.

Quality Consultant – Key Stage 1 & Key Stage 2 Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling (GPS)

A Quality Consultant (QC) is responsible for supporting SQA to ensure items and marking schemes are clearly mapped to the Curriculum, for the qualifications within their remit by ensuring that all tasks are quality assured and carried out to the specification, timescales and arrangements set by SQA.

Quality Consultant – Key Stage 1 & Key Stage 2 English Reading

A Quality Consultant (QC) is responsible for supporting SQA to ensure items and marking schemes are clearly mapped to the Curriculum, for the qualifications within their remit by ensuring that all tasks are quality assured and carried out to the specification, timescales and arrangements set by SQA.

Quality Consultant – Key Stage 1 & Key Stage 2 Mathematics

A Quality Consultant (QA) is responsible for supporting SQA to ensure items and marking schemes are clearly mapped to the Curriculum, for the qualifications within their remit by ensuring that all tasks are quality assured and carried out to the specification, timescales and arrangements set by SQA.

Quality Consultant – Key Stage 1 & Key Stage 2 Professional Skills Test for Trainee Teachers

A Quality Consultant (QC) is responsible for supporting SQA to ensure items and marking schemes are clearly mapped to the Curriculum, for the qualifications within their remit by ensuring that all tasks are quality assured and carried out to the specification, timescales and arrangements set by SQA.

Quality Consultant – Key Stage 1 & Key Stage 2 Science

A Quality Consultant (QC) is responsible for supporting SQA to ensure items and marking schemes are clearly mapped to the Curriculum, for the qualifications within their remit by ensuring that all tasks are quality assured and carried out to the specification, timescales and arrangements set by SQA.

Senior External Verifier (Carriage of Dangerous Goods and Use of Transportable Pressure Equipment)

A Senior External Verifier is responsible for ensuring that all tasks associated with external verification and qualification approval activities are carried out under the conditions, timescales and arrangements set by SQA.

A Senior External Verifier is responsible for ensuring that all tasks associated with external verification and qualification approval activities are carried out under the conditions, timescales and arrangements set by SQA.

STA Deputy Lead Marker

As a Deputy Lead Marker you are responsible for supporting the Lead Marker in all duties associated with the key stage 1 Technical Pre-test (TPT). This includes ensuring that all duties are carried out within the conditions, timeframes and arrangements set by STA and SQA.

STA Lead Marker

As a Lead Marker you are responsible for ensuring all duties associated with the key stage 1 Technical Pre-test (TPT) are undertaken within the conditions, timeframes and arrangements set by STA and SQA.

STA Marker

As a Marker you will mark pupils' work in line with marking/coding frames and in accordance with SQA and STA policy and procedures.

Your primary role is to ensure the consistent application of coding frames when marking pupil responses.

Systems Approver/Systems Verifier

The prime role is to work with the Qualifications and Verification staff and other SQA staff as appropriate to ensure consistent application of SQA Approval Criteria to ensure the consistent application of SQA’s Systems Verification criteria.

Test  Administrator

An SQA Test Administrator is responsible for ensuring that all administrative activities are carried out under the conditions, timescales and arrangements set by SQA.
