The contract specification will describe the role and list the outline duties required of the role. From each contract specification you will also be able to see the relevant selection criteria for that role. The selection criteria will describe the characteristics required to undertake the role.

Education Consultant English Grammar, punctuation and spelling (GPS)

The Education Consultant role is multi-faceted and their primary role is to support the Item Writer/Expert Reviewers to develop questions, items or tasks, marking instructions, and commentaries, texts and rationales, where appropriate.

Education Consultant Professional Skills Test

The Education Consultant role is multi-faceted and their primary role is to support the Item Writer/Expert Reviewers to develop questions, items or tasks, marking instructions, and commentaries, texts and rationales, where appropriate which conform to the Standards & Testing Agency’s (STA) requirements.

Examiner - DGSA

An Examiner undertakes pre and post examination procedures under the guidance of the Principal Assessor and in accordance with SQA policy and instructions.

External Verifier (Petroleum Driver Passport Industry Training Scheme)

An External Verifier is responsible for external verification and qualification approval activities under the conditions, timescales and arrangements set by SQA.

External Verifier (Carriage of Dangerous Goods and Use of Transportable Pressure Equipment)

An External Verifier is responsible for external verification and qualification approval activities under the conditions, timescales and arrangements set by SQA.

External Verifier (UK and International)

An External Verifier is responsible for external verification and qualification approval activities under the conditions, timescales and arrangements set by SQA.

Item Writer/Expert Reviewer English grammar, punctuation and spelling (GPS)

The Item Writer/Expert Reviewer  English grammar, punctuation and spelling (GPS) role involves working as part of a team co-ordinated by an Education Consultant and Quality Consultant, as well as other Item Writers to carry out peer reviews.

Item Writer/Expert Reviewer Professional Skills Test

The Item Writer/Expert Reviewer Professional Skills Test role involves working as part of a team co-ordinated by an Education Consultant and Quality Consultant, as well as other Item Writers to carry out peer reviews.

Marker – DGSA

A Marker marks candidates’ work in line with General Marking Instructions and in accordance with SQA policy and procedures.

Qualification Approver

A Qualification Approver assesses completed qualification approval applications submitted by centres and make recommendations on their readiness to offer the qualifications in accordance with SQA policy and procedures.

Qualification Verifier

A Qualification Verifier is responsible for qualification verification activities under the conditions, timescales and arrangements set by SQA.

Senior External Verifier (Carriage of Dangerous Goods and Use of Transportable Pressure Equipment)

A Senior External Verifier is responsible for ensuring that all tasks associated with external verification and qualification approval activities are carried out under the conditions, timescales and arrangements set by SQA.

Systems Approver/Systems Verifier

The prime role is to work with the Qualifications and Verification staff and other SQA staff as appropriate to ensure consistent application of SQA Approval Criteria to ensure the consistent application of SQA’s Systems Verification criteria.

Test Administrator

An SQA Test Administrator is responsible for ensuring that all test/administrative activities are carried out under the conditions, timescales and arrangements set by SQA.

  • The prime role is to manage the test administration process within schools to ensure that standards are maintained whilst adhering to all physical and information security requirements stated by SQA. 

These activities will be under the direction of SQA’s Trialling Services Team.
