To find out more about any of the roles use the links below to open the relevant contract specification. Contract specifications were formerly know as job descriptions.
The contract specification will describe the role and list the outline duties required of the role. From each contract specification you will also be able to see the relevant selection criteria for that role. The selection criteria will describe the characteristics required to undertake the role.

The contract specifications and selection criteria below are applicable to all new appointments.
An Audio Visual Presenter is responsible for providing a clear spoken version of a supplied script at a recording session for use in the assessment of National Qualifications, in accordance with SQA policy and procedures.
A Cartographer creates and draws maps and provides artwork for external assessments.
A Chief Invigilator is responsible for the organisation and supervision of invigilation at centres undertaking external assessments for National Qualifications, in accordance with SQA policy and instructions.
A Depute Chief Invigilator is responsible for supporting the Chief Invigilator with the organisation and supervision of invigilation at centres undertaking external assessments for National Qualifications, in accordance with SQA policy and instructions.
An Endorsement Auditor undertakes to carry out the external audit process and make recommendations on an organisations readiness to merit an SQA Endorsement in accordance with SQA policy and instructions.
An Examiner works with the Principal Assessor and other SQA appointees to ensure consistent application of national standards and subject specific integrity of decision-making in relation to external assessment arrangements.
An External Verifier is responsible for external verification and qualification approval activities.

An Invigilator undertakes the duties of invigilation for the external assessment of National Qualifications, in accordance with SQA policy and instructions.
The Lead Verifier is responsible for standardisation of all HN/VQ external verification activities under the conditions, timescales and arrangements set by SQA and must be a contracted Senior External Verifier.
A Marker marks candidates' work in line with detailed marking instructions and in accordance with SQA policy and procedures.
A Modern Language Scrutineer checks and advises on the accuracy and authenticity of language (other than English) in external assessments.
A Principal Assessor is responsible for leading, supporting and working (as appropriate to subject and level) with teams of SQA appointees.
A Question Paper Modifier undertakes the review and modification of the content of an SQA examination question paper to ensure it is accessible for blind/visually impaired candidates, in accordance with SQA policy and instructions.
A Scrutineer works through finalised external assessments as a candidate would and submit worked answers
A Senior Examiner works with the Principal Assessor and other SQA appointees to ensure consistent application of national standards and subject specific integrity of decision-making in relation to external assessment arrangements
A Senior External Verifier provides leadership and support to a team of external verifiers through the processes in accordance with SQA policy and instruction.
A Setter is responsible for creating questions, items or tasks and appropriate supporting marking instructions for external assessments.
A Signed Transcription Reviewer undertakes reviews of centres'
A Subject Working Group (SWG) works with an SQA Qualifications Development Consultant, taking advice from a Qualifications Design Team, to contribute to the development of a portfolio of qualifications and associated products, in accordance with SQA policy and instructions.
A Systems Verifier undertakes to objectively judge SQA centres' compliance against SQA Quality Framework.
The prime role is to work with the QEM team and other SQA staff as appropriate to ensure consistent application of SQA Quality Framework.
A Team Leader (EMC) is responsible for Working with the Principal Assessor and other SQA appointees to ensure consistent application of national standards and subject specific integrity of decision-making in relation to external assessment arrangements
A Team Leader is responsible for supporting the Principal Verifier in maintaining national standards for the Baccalaureate within their remit by ensuring that all tasks associated with the quality assurance of internally assessed Units and components of Course assessments are carried out within the conditions, timescales and arrangements set by SQA.
A Translator for Appointees undertakes translations and/or transcriptions of candidates' signed communication for Appointees who require such services to carry out their appointee duties, in accordance with SQA policy and instructions.
A Translator translates assessment materials, and if required, candidate scripts, into the specified language, in accordance with SQA policy and instructions, including the SQA publication 'Gaelic Orthographic Convention'.
A Vetter is responsible for reviewing questions, items or tasks and appropriate supporting marking instructions.
A Visiting Assessor (formerly known as Visiting Examiner) visits centres to assess candidate performance against national standards.
