Getting your coursework back from SQA

SQA provides a service to return non-examination material submitted to us for assessment. This is for coursework due to be assessed for the 2024 examination diet.

The closing date for requests is 27th September 2024. Any requests received after this date will incur an additional late charge.

We will despatch materials from Monday 21st October 2024.

Charges

There is a charge for returning externally assessed materials, each request is £3.91 per subject/level for each candidate.

In previous years the return of 3D artwork, was charged at a higher rate, however from this year all requests will use the same standardised rate.

Late requests

The closing date for request forms is 27th September 2024. Any requests received after this date will incur a late charge per candidate, level and subject. Late requests will be accepted until 22nd November 2024 when the returns procedure ends.

Each late request is £5.87, these are calculated per subject and per level.

Coursework marked from image (MFI)

Please note for coursework which are marked from image (MFI), only a printout of the scanned image of the original portfolio will be supplied.

Appeals - return of evidence materials

If a post-certification review (appeal) is requested for any returnable materials, we are required to retain this work for 12 months after the final decision is made on grades awarded. You may receive a copy of materials.

Examination Exceptional Circumstances Consideration (EECCS) – return of additional evidence

For centres only – if you require the return of the additional evidence sent to SQA as part of a EECCS submission, please contact us by completing the form.

Frequently asked questions

Unfortunately, some materials cannot be returned. These include USBs/memory sticks as they may hold materials for more than one candidate. Please contact your school, college, or training provider as they may hold a copy of your work.

SQA will dispatch your materials from Monday 21st October 2024, and they will arrive with you from 22nd October 2024 onwards. SQA will only send requests to the address you have provided on your form.

Any unrequested work (non-appeals) will be securely disposed of at the end of the current calendar year. SQA will hold appeals material for one year, after which we will securely dispose of any unrequested appeals materials.

No, exam scripts are not returned. An exemption to the right of access under data protection law also applies to exam scripts.

Other important information

  • Damaged items - If your materials were damaged during transit to SQA, or during the assessment itself, we may not be able to return them. There is no compensation for any damaged folios.

  • Packaging of materials - If you submit a request to have your materials returned, SQA may not be able to do this in the original packaging. We do not accept requests to return packaging alone (for example portfolio cases). There is no compensation for any packaging materials that are not returned or damaged during the marking process.

  • Materials submitted digitally - Please note that for materials submitted digitally, SQA can only supply a printout of the scanned image of the original portfolio. Your school, college, or training provider may hold your original work.

  • USBs/memory sticks - USB sticks cannot be returned to candidates as they may hold materials for more than one candidate. Please contact your school, college, or training provider as they may hold a copy of your work.
