MCKL: building a globally recognised pathway for students

Methodist College Kuala Lumpur (MCKL) partnered with Qualifications Scotland to strengthen its Diploma programmes and provide more opportunities for its students. Since becoming a centre, MCKL has added the SQA Advanced Diploma to its offering, giving students a dual qualification, wider university choice and a faster route into degree study.

About MCKL: higher education institution in Malaysia

Methodist College Kuala Lumpur (MCKL) is a private higher education institution in Malaysia. It’s known for its academic quality, its focus on character building, and its holistic approach to education. MCKL offers pre-university and tertiary programmes to students cross Malaysia and the wider region.

Goal: a globally recognised pathway

Our primary objective in collaborating with Qualifications Scotland was to enhance the academic depth and international standing of our Diploma programmes at MCKL, providing our students with a globally recognised educational pathway.”

How MCKL heard about us: from first contact to partnership

We visited MCKL to discuss working together. The partnership didn’t progress until later, when Dr. Chua Ping Yong became the CEO at MCKL. Dr. Chua had previously worked as the Group CEO of Kingsley Education Group (a Malaysian Education group listed in Hong Kong) where he’d seen the quality and value of our qualifications first-hand. When he joined MCKL, he got back in touch with us to begin the partnership.

Why MCKL chose us: trust and recognition

MCKL chose to work with Qualifications Scotland for two main reasons.

Government backing. As a government-backed awarding body, we offer a strong standard of credibility and transparency. This helps keep MCKL’s academic standards aligned with internationally respected benchmarks.

Recognition in China. We have been operating in China since 2003 and are well recognised there, with tens of thousands of students having studied with us. Our established progression routes give MCKL graduates valuable academic and career opportunities across the region.

Becoming a centre: preparing to deliver a new qualification

MCKL became a Qualifications Scotland centre to deliver our qualifications, adding the SQA Advanced Diploma alongside their existing Diploma programme. Subjects include Computer Science, information technology, Digital Business and Digital Marketing. MCKL's team put in a lot of work to introduce the qualifications, and we supported them closely throughout the process.

The benefits: prestige, progression and expertise

Working with Qualifications Scotland is delivering substantial benefits to both our institution and our students.

Next steps: expanding global opportunities

We’re focused on expanding international pathways for our students and strengthening their global mobility. Through our partnership with Qualifications Scotland, we’ll continue to offer students a gateway to higher education worldwide, opening up diverse opportunities and broadening their outlook through international exposure.
