On 1 February 2026, Qualifications Scotland replaced SQA and became Scotland’s new national awarding body. The documents on this page remain current and you can continue to use them. We’ll update them in the style of Qualifications Scotland when they’re next due for review.

We’ve reduced the Higher Human Biology question papers and combined them into one question paper worth 100 marks. The new question paper has two sections, and the exam will last 2 hours 30 minutes.
The assignment is still worth 20 marks and we’ve now scaled this to 25 marks instead of 30.
Please see the Higher Human Biology page for details and to access the updated course documents.
These changes are part of ongoing improvements to assessment in some of our current National Courses, based on feedback from educators and learners. Our high-level summary table gives an overview of these changes.
