Core Skills

Core Skills are essential if individuals are to meet their personal needs and the needs of society. Individuals who can analyse and solve problems, communicate well, use information technology, and work with others effectively. They are well-equipped to assume the active, flexible, and responsible role which modern workplaces need and society expects.

Will Core Skills be automatically certified in the National Qualifications?

SQA has published results of the Core Skill validation for the new National Qualifications, including key National Courses, Literacy and Numeracy Units, Awards and Skills for Work Courses.

The Core Skills Validation Results table (44 KB) details the Courses or Units, in the new National Qualifications, that have Core Skill or Core Skill component(s). These qualifications will give automatic certification of the Core Skill and/or component. This means that when a learner achieves the qualification, their Core Skills Profile will also be updated to show they have achieved the Core Skill/component(s) at the corresponding SCQF Level.
