Heating and Ventilating Industrial and Commercial Installation

The Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ 3) in Heating and Ventilating: Industrial and Commercial Installation at SCQF level 6 allows candidates to demonstrate competence in job-related skills in their particular area of work and expertise.
This qualification covers installing, testing and inspecting industrial and commercial heating and ventilating systems — and includes performing electrical work on mechanical building services systems and welding industrial and commercial heating and ventilating pipework.
Establishing and maintaining relationships in the building services engineering sector, co-ordinating a work site, and health, safety and environmental legislation are also covered.
This qualification has been designed in partnership with SummitSkills to ensure relevance to the sector.
SVQs are based on National Occupational Standards. SQA works in partnership with other organisations to ensure that National Occupational Standards (NOS) are relevant to the current and future needs of Scottish industries.
This qualification is available through employers and training providers.

Why deliver this qualification
The SVQ 3 Heating and Ventilating: Industrial and Commercial Installation at SCQF level 6 is a re-accredited qualification.
Learners will gain an internationally recognised qualification which guarantees that they have the skills, knowledge and abilities required to carry out their role successfully. Employers will also benefit from their employees being proficient.
The SVQ is offered in the workplace. As assessment is carried out in the workplace this minimises any time learners would need to be away from their work.
Who does this qualification suit
This SVQ is suitable for:
- learners who may have just left school
- individuals who are currently in employment and who wish to obtain a formal qualification
Access
Entry is at the discretion of the centre.
Candidates should be in a job or placement where they are carrying out relevant tasks and responsibilities which allow then to gather the required evidence.
Progression
This SVQ 3 could provide progression to:
- degree level study at a higher education institution
- employment in the building engineering services sector
Approval
Centres with devolved authority for approval should use their own internal approval process.
Centres without devolved authority will have to come forward for approval and should contact SQA’s Business Development Team for guidance.
Assessors and verifiers must be able to meet SQA’s general requirements for technical/occupational competence as outlined in the Guide to Approval.

Lapsing
Information about the qualification(s)
Qualification Structure
Heating and Ventilating Industrial and Commercial Installation Level 2 and 3.
These qualifications are now in their lapsing period and will finish on Level 2: 31/7/2017, Level 3: 31.07.2019.
Centres should note:
- The qualifications will be deleted from the relevant catalogue
- The qualifications’ content and delivery tools will remain on SQA’s website until 31/7/2017 for Level 2 and 31.07.2019 for Level 3 — after which they will be removed and archived
- No new centres may be approved to offer the qualifications
- No candidates can be entered for the qualifications
- Centres should ensure candidates complete the qualifications and results are submitted to SQA before 31/7/2017 for Level 2 and before 31.07.2019 for Level 3
