Why deliver this qualification
The PDA in Preparing a Dental Practice for Inspection has been developed in partnership with educationalists from the dental sector.
All NHS practices are subject to a practice inspection process, and must undergo an inspection by the health board every three years. This PDA will provide learners with the breadth of knowledge and skills required to fully contribute to the planning, preparation and presentation of information required for a practice inspection.
It will help employers meet skills gaps and provide continuing professional development for staff, while learners will gain knowledge and skills needed for the workplace.
This PDA provides progression routes to further study (see Progression).
Who does this qualification suit
The target audience are registered dental care professionals, eg practice managers or dental nurses who seek to extend their clinical duties within their professional scope of practice, as defined by the General Dental Council (GDC).
Access
Access to this PDA is at the discretion of the centre. Learners must be registered with the GDC.
Progression
Learners will have the opportunity to progress to the HND in Dental Nursing.
Approval
Centres will have to come forward for approval and should contact SQA's Business Development Team for guidance.
Assessors and verifiers must be able to meet SQA's general requirements for technical/occupational competence as outlined in the Guide to Approval.
How to assess
The unit specification gives detailed information on the evidence requirements and approaches to assessment. Recommended assessment methods for this PDA are the completion of assignments, portfolio building and report writing.
