NPA in Zoo Animal Behaviour and Welfare at SCQF level 6

National Progression Awards (NPAs) assess a defined set of skills and knowledge in specialist vocational areas, linked to National Occupational Standards. The NPA in Zoo Animal Behaviour and Welfare at SCQF level 6 introduces learners to techniques that are important in the sector.

This NPA develops knowledge and understanding of animal behaviour and welfare; practical, technical and transferable skills; oral, written and evaluation abilities; resource management; problem solving and planning; and organisational and communication skills.

This qualification covers areas such as animal survival behaviour, behaviour of animals in zoos, and the welfare of animals in zoos.

Learners will develop the knowledge and skills to design and use ethograms, and the data they produce will contribute to the understanding of animal behaviour and welfare in zoos across the UK and further afield.

The qualification is available through colleges in conjunction with a partner zoo or wildlife park.
