Signed Translation Reviewer
A Signed Translation Reviewer undertakes reviews of centre translations of learners’ signed responses to external assessments, in accordance with SQA policy and instructions.
These activities will be under the direction of colleagues from our Operations Directorate as appropriate.
Outline of duties
- Review video recordings of learner’s signed responses against the English translations.
- Provide comments on the accuracy for each learner’s translation, if appropriate, allocated to you within agreed timescales.
- Attend annual post-review meetings, where required.
Selection Criteria
Successful candidates must:
- Have a minimum level of competence in British Sign Language (BSL), at least to Stage 3.
- Have relevant experience with using and interpreting BSL in teaching, learning and assessment settings in Scotland and supporting deaf learners in National Courses, particularly in the senior phase.
- Be able to communicate confidently with our staff and other Signed Translation Reviewers orally, using BSL and in writing, and provide constructive feedback.
- Be able to demonstrate the ability to adhere to deadlines.
- Be able to demonstrate excellent organisational skills, administrative skills and attention to detail.
- Have a home computer or laptop with suitable internet connection and private e-mail address.
Key Performance Measures
- Complete preparation activities.
- Apply agreed quality assurance standards in accordance with specified procedures with regard to review process.
- Submit review comments within agreed timescales.
- Attend post-review meeting and contribute to continuous improvement activities.
