SVQ 2 Rail Services: Driving level 5

SQA offers the SVQ 2 Rail Services: Driving level 5.

The SVQ Rail Services: Driving is a work-based qualification tailored to meet the needs of those working in the industry.

The qualification will allow proof of individual competence to be demonstrated with respect to job performance, knowledge and understanding.

At Level 5 competence, demonstrating the application of knowledge and skills on a significant range of varied work activities in a variety of contexts must be shown. There must be some degree of individual autonomy shown.

Who does this qualification suit


There are no specific entry requirements. SVQs are usually undertaken by experienced personnel to prove competence or newer employees as part of their on the job training.


There may be opportunities for candidates to progress to higher level qualifications.


Centres with devolved authority for approval should use their own internal approval process.

Centres without devolved authority require to come forward for approval and should contact SQA's Business Development Team for guidance.

Assessors and verifiers must be able to meet SQA's general requirements for technical/occupational competence as outlined in the Systems and Qualification Approval Guide.

Centres should pay particular attention to the requirements set out in the assessment strategy if operating qualification via an RWE.
