Sociology offers opportunities for learners to investigate human society, cultures and social issues. The courses encourage learners to ask questions about the social world we live in. They also encourage evidence-based explanations for human social behaviour.

Centres need to apply for approval before delivering Sociology qualifications for the first time.
Teachers and lecturers delivering or assessing Sociology are required to have completed at least two years successful study of Sociology at University or Higher National Diploma (HND) level.
Individuals undertaking the internal verifier role for Sociology must have sufficient subject knowledge to understand the content of assessments and national standards for the course. They also need to be able to confirm that reliable assessment judgements have been made. Internal verifiers are not required to have completed two years study of Sociology at University or HND level.
