SVQ Court and Prosecution Administration SCQF level 5

The Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) in Court and Prosecution Administration at SCQF level 5 allows candidates to demonstrate competence in job-related skills in their particular area of work and expertise.

This qualification covers areas such as receiving and progressing court, tribunal and prosecution cases; preparing and providing papers for individual court, tribunal and prosecution cases and maintaining court and tribunal records.

This qualification has been designed in partnership with the Sector Skills Council; Skills for Justice and the Scottish Courts and Tribunal Service to ensure relevance to the sector.

SVQs are based on National Occupational Standards. SQA works in partnership with other organisations to ensure that National Occupational Standards (NOS) are relevant to the current and future needs of Scottish industries.

This qualification is available through the Scottish Courts and Tribunal Service.

Why deliver this qualification

The SVQ Court and Prosecution Administration at SCQF level 5 is a nationally recognised award accredited by the Scottish Qualifications Authority.

This SVQ provides evidence that an individual employed in the courts sector is competent to process cases, arrange hearings, distribute decisions, and provide administrative support to the members of courts and tribunals and their judicial heads.

Who does this qualification suit

This SVQ is designed to be assessed in the workplace. Examples of the settings or centres in which the SVQs are likely to be delivered include courts, tribunals and offices. The candidates taking this qualification may be working as clerks of court, court officers and administrative officers. They will take this qualification for a variety of reasons: to support training given to them by their employer; to gain promotion; to prove their job competence; and/or for personal development.

Access

Entry is at the discretion of the centre.

No prior qualifications are required to undertake this qualification, although experience in/knowledge of the sector would be an advantage.

Candidates should be in a job or placement where they are carrying out relevant tasks and responsibilities which allow them to gather the required evidence.

Progression

Achieving the qualification will give the candidate the opportunity to progress within the Court Service.

Approval

Centres must come forward for approval and should contact SQA's Business Development Team for guidance.

Assessors and verifiers must be able to meet SQA's general requirements for technical/occupational competence as outlined in the Systems and Qualification Approval Guide.

Core Skills signposting

Core Skill mappings are carried out by the SSC responsible for the development of an SVQ. It is a requirement of SQA Accreditation that every SVQ submission includes information on where possible opportunities for candidates to develop Core Skills exist across the mandatory units.

Centres should note that mappings are not audited or validated against the Core Skills framework/units so are not accepted by SQA awarding body as evidence towards achievement of the Core Skills units.
