Skills for Work: Financial Services National 5 (SCQF level 5)

National 5 Skills for Work: Financial Services is an introductory qualification. It develops the skills, knowledge and attitudes, needed for work in the industry.

Candidates will explore the variety and range of employers and career opportunities in the financial services sector. They will become familiar with key words and terms used in the sector, and will develop an awareness of the impact of the sector on modern society. Personal development of employability skills will be the main focus across the Course, and the development of personal financial responsibility is also given high profile. Candidates will develop a broad awareness of the impact of key legislation on the sector.

At SCQF level 5, learners work alone or with others on straightforward tasks with support.

This qualification is available through schools and colleges.

How to assess

The skills and qualities that are developed through this Course are assessed through a range of practical activities — candidates will maintain a folio of evidence for each Unit to demonstrate their preparation, planning and participation. Some knowledge and understanding will be assessed through short-answer questions. Candidates will review their own progress and development in employability skills throughout the Course.

Each Unit will be supported by a National Assessment Bank (NAB) item which will provide an assessment package and will exemplify the national standard.

There is no external assessment for this Course. Learners must successfully complete each Unit to achieve the Course.

Unit specifications provide detailed information on the Evidence Requirements for each Unit. The Unit Support Notes provide information on approaches to assessment for each Unit.

The Units are internally assessed by centres and externally verified by SQA.
