Diploma in Cultural Venue Operations at SCQF level 6

The Diploma in Cultural Venue Operations at SCQF level 6 provides learners with a qualification that will demonstrate their aptitude in this area. This Diploma will develop the learner’s confidence and awareness of the skills that they have acquired which they can use for employment and/or further study.

This qualification covers areas such as supporting the organisation of an event or exhibition, working with other people in a business environment, solving business problems and evaluating the customer, audience or visitor experience.

This qualification is available through employers, colleges and training providers.

Why deliver this qualification

Supported by the Scottish Government, this competence-based qualification is part of the Modern Apprenticeships frameworks.

Enables the learner to demonstrate both underpinning knowledge and performance evidence of competence in a creative and cultural vocational area.

This qualification is based on the most current version of National Occupational Standards, defined by Sector Skills Councils (SSCs) Creative and Cultural Skills (https://www.ccskills.org.uk/).

Candidates can progress to a range of courses at a higher level including Higher National Certificate in Technical Theatre at SCQF level 7, Higher National Diploma Events Management at SCQF level 8.

The Diploma can be offered within a workplace environment and evidence demonstrating achievement of the qualification can be assessed within a workplace environment or, where simulation is used, within a realistic working environment.

Who does this qualification suit

This Diploma is suitable for:

  • learners who may have just left school
  • mature candidates who may have been out of education for some time
  • individuals who are currently in employment and who wish to obtain a formal qualification
  • employers who wish their employees to obtain short, continuing professional development courses

Access

Entry is at the discretion of the centre.

No prior qualifications are required to undertake this qualification, although experience in/knowledge of the subject would be an advantage.

Progression

The level 6 award could provide progression to:

  • an HNC in Technical Theatre
  • an HND in Events Management
  • degree level study at a higher education institution
  • employment in the Cultural Venue sector, perhaps in management or operations

Approval

Centres interested in offering this qualification are required to come forward for approval and should contact SQA¿s Business Development Team for guidance.

Assessors and verifiers must be able to meet SQA¿s general requirements for technical/occupational competence as outlined in the Systems and Qualification Approval Guide. The specific delivery requirements are set out in the assessment strategy.

How to assess

Assessment of this award will be through a series of theoretical and practical assessments or tasks. Some assessments will be carried out under supervised open-book conditions, others under supervised closed-book conditions.
