Kelly Communications

Establishing Communications

Founded in 1985 by Tim Kelly to target the unique business opportunities in the emerging UK cable television market, Kelly Group has grown to become one of the leading telecommunications service providers operating in a range of industries including, rail, metro, highways and fleet and energy.

Kelly Group

With over 3,500 staff, a substantial fleet of 2700 vehicles nationwide and 40 + operational centres, Kelly Group continues to go from strength to strength working on behalf of clients such as Openreach, Virgin Media, City Fibre, Community Fibre and Network Rail. Kelly Group attributes its success to continually investing in its fleet and management systems to ensure it provides customers with world-class service. Kelly Group has enjoyed success, having been recognised in SQA’s Star Awards for the Centre of the Year, in the wider UK category.

The power of training

The Kelly Group aspires to provide quality products and services to its customers through investment in its national in-house training infrastructure. It delivers accredited training across all aspects of the telecommunications spectrum. By way of example Kelly Group previously outsourced the provision of two Street Works units (Signing, Lighting and Guarding and Monitoring Signing, Lighting and Guarding) to an external training provider which came at a cost per delegate. To help deliver a more streamlined programme and save on costs, Kelly Group decided to bring this Street Works provision in-house and became an SQA approved centre, allowing it to deliver these units at its five training centres throughout the UK. Kelly Group chose SQA after recognising its high standards and track record in quality assurance.

Mark Brian, Head of Recruitment and Training at Kelly described the application process with SQA as ‘seamless and efficient.’ The Group has delivered significant cost savings since bringing this provision in-house and has accredited thousands of candidates over the past few years. Mark explains ‘the substantial cost savings allow us to re-invest into continual improvements of our national service delivery — I would highly recommend working with SQA.’ Regional Manager, Sarah Stevenson commented on the company’s success; ‘SQA’s relationship with Kelly Communications has gone from strength to strength - I am excited to continue to support them in their journey.’

Recognising success

Kelly Group has been accredited to deliver Street Works units LA, 01 to 08 and the Supervisor units S1 to S7 modules at its training facilities. Their partnership with SQA has been extremely fruitful, with a long-standing and prosperous relationship. They have consistently passed Quality Audits and annual External Verification visits, receiving highly positive feedback from SQA on each occasion.

SQA offers a complete suite of Street Works qualifications for operatives and supervisors working on the roads and highways. Read more about offering Street Works qualifications.
