Join our Learner Interest Committee
We're creating a Learner Interest Committee - a group of learners of all ages, who will help shape what qualifications look and feel like across Scotland.
We've already recruited some members but we're still looking for:
- children and young people who are not currently taking a qualification
- learners of any age who are taking a vocational qualification.
We want to ensure these groups are represented alongside the committee members already selected.
Use the tabs below to open each section individually. Alternatively you can show all the sections.
What is the Learner Interest Committee?
The Learner Interest Committee is a learner-led advisory group for Qualifications Scotland that:
- brings real learner experiences into national conversations
- shares feedback on learning, assessment, and qualifications
- helps improve how qualifications are designed and assessed
Our Board and senior leadership team must consider the committee's advice, so by joining the committee you'll be helping to shape the future of learning and assessment in Scotland.
How will the committee work?
We want the committee to work for you. So, we'll ask for your input on things like:
- how often the group should meet
- whether meetings are online, in-person or a mix
- the best ways for you to share your views
- how to make sure everyone feels comfortable, respected and listened to
It's not a ‘traditional’ committee with lots of papers. We'll make it easy for you to share your views by taking part in discussions and activities.
Two people called co-convenors will lead the group, support discussions, and act as a link to Qualifications Scotland. We already have one co-convenor, who is a member of the Board. The group will select a second co-convenor from within the committee.
Taking part is voluntary and expenses will be covered. We will also explore ways to recognise your contributions, such as awards or certificates.
What's involved?
You'll be asked to:
- attend a mix of online and in-person meetings, around four per year (likely evenings or weekends to fit around work and school)
- spend some time reading information or preparing thoughts
- take part in discussions and respond to emails between meetings
- have access to the internet and a quiet space for online meetings
- bring your experiences, opinions and questions
Who can apply?
You can apply at this stage if you are:
- A child or young person not currently taking a Qualifications Scotland qualification (for example an S1–S3 learner).
- A learner of any age taking a vocational qualification (for example an SVQ, Modern Apprenticeship, or other workplace-based learning).
Please note: if you're the kind of learner we're currently looking for AND you already applied in February or early March (when we first advertised for members), you don't need to re-apply.
Why join?
By joining the Learner Interest Committee, you can:
- influence the future of qualifications in Scotland
- share your experiences of learning and assessment
- help shape decisions that affect thousands of people
- meet learners from across Scotland and build connections
- make your voice heard at a national level

The form collects some basic information about you to help us make sure the committee includes a wide range of learners. It's quick to complete and there's no need to prepare anything in advance.
What happens next?
After the closing date, we’ll select members to ensure the committee represents a broad range of learner views. We’ll contact you as soon as possible whether you’re selected or not.
If you have additional support needs or have any questions about the process, we’re happy to help. Contact governance@qualifications.gov.scot in confidence.
Other ways to get involved
If you're unsure whether this committee is right for you, there are other ways to get involved. Our 'Your Voice' learner panel offers another way to contribute to Qualifications Scotland's work.
