Join our Teacher and Practitioner Interest Committee
The Teacher and Practitioner Interest Committee ensures that the voices of Scotland's teachers, trainers, college lecturers, and those training to teach or provide training are at the heart of Qualifications Scotland's policy and practice.
This is your opportunity to bring your professional experience into national conversations - helping to shape a qualifications system that is fair, inclusive and fit for the future.
Use the tabs below to open each section individually. Alternatively you can show all the sections.
What the committee does
The committee advises Qualifications Scotland on how qualifications - and the policies and processes that support them - operate in real settings, from schools and colleges to training providers, workplaces and employers.
Members help us to:
- share the day-to-day realities of delivering qualifications
- bring classroom, training and college experience into national-level discussions
- identify emerging challenges, innovations and opportunities
- strengthen collaboration between Qualifications Scotland and the teaching, training and lecturing professions
Who we're looking for
We want the committee to reflect the breadth and diversity of Scotland's teaching, training and lecturing communities.
We welcome:
- teachers and lecturers across all subject areas
- people providing training, including workplace or vocational trainers
- student teachers and newly qualified teachers
- practitioners with experience of National Qualifications, Higher Nationals and Vocational Qualifications
We are particularly keen to include members from different parts of Scotland and from a wide range of backgrounds, identities and lived experiences. Every perspective strengthens the committee and helps us better represent Scotland's teaching and training workforce.
Why join the committee
Your voice can help shape discussions that influence qualifications across Scotland.
As a member, you will:
- contribute to the future direction of qualifications in Scotland
- collaborate with colleagues across sectors and regions
- support the continuous improvement of Scotland's qualifications system
Although the committee is advisory, it plays an important role within Qualifications Scotland. The views and insights shared by the Teacher and Practitioner Interest Committee are fed directly into senior teams and board-level discussions, helping to inform strategic thinking, influence decision making, and shape future developments in qualifications and assessment.
Committee format
The structure and format of the committee are still being finalised - and that is intentional. We want the committee to work for you.
Participation is voluntary and designed to fit alongside your professional commitments. Meetings are expected to take place around four times per year, primarily online, at times that suit teachers, trainers and practitioners. This may include evenings, after school, or weekends. There will also be some light engagement between meetings, such as responding to emails or sharing views.
Once members are appointed, the committee will be jointly led by two co-convenors, who will share responsibility for:
- planning and chairing meetings
- supporting discussion and ensuring everyone has the chance to contribute
- acting as a link between the committee and Qualifications Scotland
We already have one co-convenor in place, who is also a member of the Qualifications Scotland Board, helping to ensure strong links between the committee and senior decision makers. They will work with committee members to identify a second co-convenor from within the group, so that the committee is led and developed by teachers and practitioners themselves.
