Our National 4 and National 5 Practical Electronics courses and units have been renamed Electronics. 

Last year, we surveyed educators and learners on their preferred title for these courses and Electronics was the preferred option across both groups. 

We aren't making any changes to the course content or the assessments. However, as the courses and units have new names, they also have new course and unit codes.

You need to use these new codes when entering learners from session 2026-27 onwards.

Updated documents

Updated course specifications, unit specifications and assessment support materials are available for you to use in session 2026-27 onwards. The updated versions are dated January 2026.

The Practical Electronics documents will be available until July 31.

On 1 February 2026, Qualifications Scotland replaced SQA and became Scotland’s new national awarding body. The documents on this page remain current and you can continue to use them. We’ll update them in the style of Qualifications Scotland when they’re next due for review.
