On 1 February 2026, Qualifications Scotland replaced SQA and became Scotland’s new national awarding body. The documents on this page remain current and you can continue to use them. We’ll update them in the style of Qualifications Scotland when they’re next due for review.

We've made some changes to the Higher Economics course assessment, following feedback from educators and learners. We've:

• reduced the question paper from 90 marks to 70 marks
• reduced the duration of the question paper from 2 hours 30 minutes to 2 hours
• amended the percentage weighting for the question paper and the assignment by introducing scaling to the assignment

The question paper now represents 78% of the overall course assessment and the assignment represents 22%. We’ve amended the question paper details in the ‘Course overview’ and ‘Course assessment’ sections accordingly. Please update your teaching notes and assessments (for example, prelims) to reflect the changes to the question paper.
