Construction Site Management (Construction): Building and Civil Engineering

The Scottish Vocational Qualification SVQ Level 4 in Construction Site Management (Construction): Building and Civil Engineering has been designed in partnership with CITB Sector Skills Council to ensure relevance to the sector. It is also jointly awarded with the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).
This qualification covers areas such as developing and maintaining good working relationships; establishing, implementing and maintaining systems for managing health, safety and welfare; monitoring project activities; organising, controlling and monitoring supplies of materials; and controlling project quantities and costs.
This qualification allows learners to demonstrate competence in job related skills in their particular area of work and expertise. It is available through employers and training providers.

Why deliver this qualification
The SVQ in Construction Site Management (Construction): Building and Civil Engineering at SCQF level 9 is a re-accredited qualification.
Upon successful completion, learners will gain an internationally recognised qualification which guarantees that they have the skills, knowledge and abilities required to carry out their role successfully. Employers will also benefit from their employees being proficient.
Assessment is carried out in the workplace, minimising any time learners would need to be away from their work.
The SVQ can be offered full-time or part-time (eg day-release) or by open and distance learning.
Who does this qualification suit
This SVQ is suitable for people who are currently in employment and who wish to obtain a formal qualification.
Access
Entry is at the discretion of the centre.
Candidates should be in a job or placement where they are carrying out relevant tasks and responsibilities which allow them to gather the required evidence.
No prior qualifications are required to undertake this qualification, although an SVQ level 3 in Construction Site Supervision (Construction): Building and Civil Engineering at SCQF level 6 would be advantageous.
Progression
The SVQ level 4 award could provide progression to:
- degree level study at a higher education institution
- employment in the construction sector, perhaps as building or civil engineering technician
Approval
Centres with devolved authority for approval should use their own internal approval process.
Centres without devolved authority require to come forward for approval and should contact SQA's Business Development Team for guidance.
Assessors and verifiers must be able to meet SQA's general requirements for technical/occupational competence as outlined in the Systems and Qualification Approval Guide

For details of the Units making up the SVQ, please refer to the Qualification Structure.
This qualification is now in its lapsing period and will finish on 31/01/2018. Centres should note:
- The qualification will be deleted from the relevant catalogue
- The qualification's content and delivery tools will remain on SQA's website until 31/01/2018 at which point they will be removed and archived
- No new centres may be approved to offer the qualification
- No candidates can be entered for the qualification
- Centres should ensure candidates complete the qualification and results are submitted to SQA before 31/01/2018
