SVQ Care Services Leadership and Management SCQF level 10

The Scottish Vocational Qualification in Care Services Leadership and Management at SCQF level 10 recognises the knowledge and skills required from candidates working in management within the care sector.

It has been designed to provide a robust and certificated qualification which equips individuals with a range of knowledge, skills and values to enable them to take on the leadership and management challenges facing care services today.

This qualification covers areas such as managing and developing yourself and your workforce within care services, leading and managing practice that promotes the safeguarding of individuals, health and safety in the work setting, and effective communication systems and practice.

This SVQ has been designed to meet the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) registration requirements for care managers.

This qualification is available through training providers and colleges.

Why deliver this qualification

The SVQ in Care Services Leadership and Management at SCQF level 10 is a re-accredited qualification.

Upon successful completion, learners will gain a national recognised qualification which guarantees that they have the skills, knowledge and abilities required to carry out their role successfully. 

This SVQ 4 in Care Services Leadership and Management has been designed to meet the SSSC registration requirements for care managers. Being a workplace qualification, based on up-to-date industry practice, it is therefore of real benefit to candidates and of wide appeal to employers.

The qualification can be offered at any time — there is no need to follow academic session timescales.

Who does this qualification suit

The SVQ in Care Services Leadership and Management is suitable for those who have a management role in a care service.

Access

Entry is at the discretion of the centre. This is a work-based qualification, therefore candidates should be in a job role which enables them to provide the required evidence in a working environment.

Providers must ensure that candidates are working at the appropriate level in a care service.

Progression

There is some overlap of Units between the different levels of SVQ, allowing candidates to progress to other Management SVQs as their job role develops or changes.

Approval

Centres will have to come forward for approval and should contact SQA's Business Development Team for guidance.

Core Skills signposting

Core Skill mappings are carried out by the SSC responsible for the development of an SVQ. It is a requirement of SQA Accreditation that every SVQ submission includes information on where possible opportunities for candidates to develop Core Skills exist across the mandatory units.

Centres should note that mappings are not audited or validated against the Core Skills framework/units so are not accepted by SQA awarding body as evidence towards achievement of the Core Skills units.
