Response

1. The number of alternative assessment evidence submitted for scrutiny

Our published statistics quantifies the number of appeals submitted for review. The following link provides the information on appeals. Appeals Statistics 2022 - SQA

Each appeal included centre alternative assessment evidence for question paper components, as well as a consideration of any relevant SQA coursework.

2. The number of alternative assessments that were 100% scrutinised

All centre assessments for each appeal were reviewed as part of the process.

3. The number of these scrutinised that were awarded a higher grade

Our published statistics quantifies the number of upgrades from the appeals 2022 process. The link above, in the response to question 1, provides this information

4. Is teaching authorities opinion of assessed grade accepted as proof of higher performance

The appeals process for 2022 involved an independent review of evidence.  The assessment evidence for each appeal was reviewed for grade worthiness by SQA senior appointees (subject experts) without knowledge of the centre's estimated grade or the learner's original result.
