FOI25/26 160 Number of Candidates from Roman Catholic Schools entered for RMPS at Nat 5, Higher and Advanced Higher

I work within the Scottish Government and am currently contributing to an evidence paper on Religious Education in Roman Catholic schools (RERC) as part of the Curriculum Improvement Cycle. To support this work, I would be grateful if you could provide the following information:

Request

1. The number of candidates from Roman Catholic (denominational) secondary schools in Scotland who were entered for Religious, Moral and Philosophical Studies (RMPS) at each of the following levels:

National 5
Higher
Advanced Higher

Please provide data for the most recent full academic year available (e.g. 2022-2025). 

2. If available, a breakdown of the data by local authority would also be appreciated.

This information will contribute directly to an internal evidence base informing curriculum review and improvement activity. Please let me know if any part of this request requires clarification or refinement.

The information you requested is contained in the attached spreadsheet. We have provided data for all centres, as we do not hold information on a school's denominational status. Under Section 17 of FOISA, we are obliged to inform you when we do not hold certain information.
