SQA Publication Scheme

SQA has adopted the Model Publication Scheme 2015 produced by the Scottish Information Commissioner. We already make a large amount of information publicly available - you might find that the information you are looking for is already available.

How to request information not available through our Publication Scheme

If you do need to make a request, please submit it to us in writing or by e-mail, stating your name and address. You can expect to receive an acknowledgement to your request within five working days, and a full response within the statutory 20 working day deadline.

There are a number of exemptions that could mean information might not be released to you as outlined at the following link:

Will I be charged for my information request?

For information that is not covered by our Publication Scheme we will not charge if the cost to us of providing it will be less than £100. If it will cost more than £100 (but less than £600) for SQA to provide the information, we may ask you to contribute up to 10% of this cost. SQA is not required to provide you with information if we estimate that it will cost us over £600 to find and supply it. If this happens we will wherever possible try to provide whatever information we can in response to your request. Full details can be found in our publication scheme.

Environmental information is governed by separate regulations, known as the Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004 (EIRs). We will only treat such requests differently when the regulations require us to do so.

What can I do if Iím not happy with the way my request has been dealt with?

When you make a freedom of information request you have the right to ask us to review our decision, explaining your reasons. Your request for review should be made within 40 working days of receipt of the information. We will acknowledge your review request within five working days and reply in full within 20 working days.

If you are still dissatisfied after any review, you have the right to apply for a decision to the Scottish Information Commissioner. Any such application should be sent to:
