Information requested

I am writing to you to request details of the remuneration of your non-executive board members. I am looking for figures on:

a) The number of days of paid work claimed by each individual member of your board members from Jan to Dec 2020, including the chair.  (Please break this figure down so it show the totals for each member.)

b) The total paid to each board member from Jan to Dec 2020.

Response

a) Board members are paid a monthly fee on the basis of their duties, which are set and reviewed annually by the Scottish Government (effective 1 April). The Chairman's level of remuneration is set and reviewed annually by the Scottish Government (effective 1 April).  Details of this remuneration to each member is published in our Annual Report and Accounts which can be accessed here for 2019-20.  Page 64 details the salary range paid to each Board Member and page 65 notes the total paid out for travel expenses.   The 2020-21 Annual Report and Accounts will be published on our website once it has been approved by the Scottish Government later this year.  Our Annual Report and Accounts are prepared and audited in accordance with the Financial Reporting Manual (FReM) for the appropriate year in question.

b) We can confirm that each Board Member received their salary payment and that due to the circumstances of COVID-19 where meetings were held on line no travel expenses were paid out for the financial year 2020-21.   Under the Data Protection Act 2018 SQA can publish the salary range for individual named Board Members but to provide you with the actual payments made which are the personal data of the individual would breach this legislation.
