PDA Website Design SCQF level 7

Professional Development Awards (PDAs) extend or broaden professional or vocational skills and are linked to National Occupational Standards.

This Professional Development Award in Web Site Design at SCQF level 7 is designed to:

  • develop the learner’s knowledge and skills of working on web development projects
  • develop employment skills and enhance learners’ employment prospects by offering the opportunity to develop skills in industry standard software
  • provide learners with the opportunity to gain vendor certification with CIW and additional qualifications
  • develop study and research skills and the transferable skill of problem solving

This Professional Development Award in Website Design at SCQF level 7 consists of advanced units that have been written in as generic a way as possible, thus allowing the centre to select the delivery software, languages and hardware platforms.

This qualification is available through colleges, training providers and some employers. It has been designed to be delivered as a taught course and will normally be available as a combination of workshops and self-directed study.

The PDA in Website Design at SCQF level 7 has been developed in partnership with employers and industry so it is suitable for the current sector.

It will help employers meet skills gaps and provide continuing professional development for staff, while learners will gain knowledge and skills needed for progression in the workplace.

This qualification is aimed at the web and interactive media industries, and as such, relates to Skillset’s Interactive Media National Occupational Standards.

Employees wishing to enhance their skills and gain a qualification sometimes find it difficult to commit to a part-time HNC or Advanced Certificate over a 2-year period in the evenings or on a day-release basis. They often want to gain a qualification in a specialist area often found within an HN or Advanced qualification. This PDA in Web Site Design at SCQF level 7 offers learners the opportunity to study a small focused course in planning and developing a website.

The PDA in Website Design is suitable for a wide range of candidates including:

  • school leavers
  • adult returners to education
  • individuals in employment who wish to enhance their career prospects
  • people who wish to start their own business

Entry requirements

As with all SQA qualifications, entry is decided by the college or learning provider. As a guide, the college or learning provider will look for:

  • a CIW Foundations level qualification
  • different combinations of relevant vocational qualifications and equivalent qualifications from other awarding bodies may also be acceptable, as would suitable vendor qualifications at an appropriate level
  • Communication skills at SCQF level 5 or 6 or equivalent
  • Information and Communication Technology skills at SCQF level 5 or 6 (preferable) or equivalent
  • Problem Solving skills at SCQF level 5 or 6 or equivalent
  • Working with Others skills at SCQF level 5 or 6 or equivalent
  • suitable work experience. Such work experience may provide inferred or actual evidence of a learner’s skills and knowledge as they apply to particular units

This PDA in Web Site Design at SCQF level 7 offers a progression route for articulation for the holders of an award from the Digital Media Computing suite of awards. Details of progression routes and links to other awards can be found in the group award specification.

Centres with devolved authority for approval should use their own internal approval process.

Centres without devolved authority will need to come forward for approval and should contact SQA’s Business Development Team for guidance.

Assessors and verifiers must be able to meet SQA’s general requirements for technical/occupational competence as outlined in the Systems and Qualification Approval Guide.

Each individual unit specification gives detailed information on the evidence requirements and approaches to assessment for each unit.

Ongoing course assessment will apply.

Each unit is assessed separately.

Assessment will allow candidates to enhance their own practice. The use of reports and projects is crucial to this.

Assessment/e-assessment support packs are available for this qualification.
