SQA celebrates apprenticeship success

Caroline Hunter, SQA National Manager (l), with Suzanne Sherry, Group Apprentice Recruitment Manager, Arnold Clark and Billy Hammond, Operations Director, GTG Training

SQA helped celebrate the achievements of apprentices, and the employers that support them, at the annual Scottish Apprenticeship Awards.

We attended the ceremony as sponsors of the ‘Large Employer of the Year’ category, which highlights the commitment of businesses to delivering high quality apprenticeship programmes.

The award was won by Arnold Clark, who offer hundreds of exciting apprenticeship opportunities, including in retail, garage equipment engineering, security systems engineering and IT. They have their own dedicated training business, GTG Training, which has three centres in the UK.

Fellow finalists were Capgemini, where the wide variety of opportunities available to apprentices mean they quickly gain valuable experience in the technology sector.

At the McTaggart group, construction apprentices make an important contribution to the communities in which they help build new homes.

Dr. Janet Brown, SQA Chief Executive, said: “The finalists in the ‘Large Employer of the Year’ category recognise that a high quality apprenticeship scheme delivers a long-term talent pipeline. Businesses can shape the training of our young people, providing them with a skilled, motivated workforce. Apprentices in these organisations have the best possible start to a career in their chosen field. Well done to all our finalists, and in particular our winners, Arnold Clark.”

Congratulations to all the nominees. Find out more about the winners.
